Building Information Modelling
A Building Information Model is an IT solution, but it is not just a software application. BIM is a concept in theory; and in practice, BIM is a purposive integration of IT applications and tools to develop a platform for integrated designing of a building. Hence, BIM is primarily associated with the concept of Integrated Project Delivery (IPD).
BIM is becoming popular and likely to be the industry standard for project design and hence a key tool in project management in future. There has been no evidence of BIM implementation in Sri Lankan construction industry. With the current trend, it is likely that Sri Lankan client will demand BIM for their projects in near future. The BIMLab was conceptualized to be the network to facilitate various researches for better implementation of BIM.
